2 1/2 years and 25,000 pieces of litter later, The Flotsam Diaries is going strong! It's fun & rewarding, shining lights on both the beautiful and ugly that I find on the coast. But it doesn't pay well. Til now, a freelance editing career has let me visit the beach at its most interesting -- just after a storm, mid-day on a Wednesday, etc. To maintain that flexibility, I'm creating a line of eco-friendly craft supplies, games, & toys under the brand "Smokestack Labs."

Hand-made & home-made right here in Saco, Maine, USA. Using only food products, common non-toxic household chemicals, and repurposed salvage material.

Eventually here you will also find general Flotsam Diaries merchandise like t-shirts, hats, and stickers. Your support and business will help ensure that I can keep hitting the beaches, learning what's out there, and sharing what I learn.

Not your average playdough

Smokestack Labs DOUGH is fun for all ages. It is home-made & hand-made in small batches using only food products. It is non-toxic, stain-resistant, and will remain fresh & pliable for months if kept sealed properly. Masterpieces can be left to air-dry for a permanent keepsake.

DOUGH comes in boxes of six colors: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, and Violet. Each tub contains 2.5 - 3.0 ounces, giving a total of ~one full pound of playdough for the budding artist in your life! Plus, Smokestack Labs puts a premium on environmental stewardship. DOUGH is packaged in certified-compostable PLA (ASTM D6400-99 specs) cups. It ships in a paperboard box; all packaging is fully biodegradable.

Kids will love it, and parents can feel good about buying it.
