Lobster Trap Tags

A recurring find on beaches of southern Maine has been the wrecks of lobster traps washed ashore, most with tags still attached. In addition, sometimes I've come across lone tags lying in the sand, with no trap to be seen. I decided to keep a page here chronicling the discovery of trap tags, and traps where they exist. (Updated September 4, 2010)

Deciphering of basic tag 8743 A1 0037 ME 07 EEZ Z:G:
8743 is the owner's license #.
A1 is the American Lobster Management area for MA/ME.
0037 is (I believe) the trap #.
ME 07 says the tag was registered for the year 2007.
EEZ = "Exclusive Economic Zone" - a zone 12-200 mi. from shore.
(Though an EEZ license does permit fishing in shallow waters too)
Z:G is Maine's zone G -- from NH border to roughly Portland.
